Lost and Found Page 22

Hello!

Tonight we have pictures of a super zany new drum set that I have developed.  I haven’t gigged with it just yet, but I’m anxious to.  It has performed quite well during some casual rehearsals and I’ve gotten a good feel for the kit.

Here is a look at the kit broken down for loading:

It’s an old crap brand floor tom (16″) converted into a mini bass drum on an old airport luggage hauler.  Mounted to it via the bass drum hoop (in two places)  is a very sweet little 8″ Ludwig tom tom made into a micro snare drum.  It’s a high quality drum and it sounds oh so good reborn.

Here is another view as I continue my biased descriptions.

Above the snare and bass drum mounted are a pair of ever-so-slightly open high hats.  They are off of some child drum set I believe.  I got them from a dumpster and they look it.  They didn’t weather well, and are covered in rust and shmootz.  They look awesome!  They sound pretty good too.

You might also have noticed the other mounts protruding from the bass drum.  Also the strange object filled with objects on the floor next to the kit.  Let us now put the kit together for playing shall we?

“What the heck is this thing?” you may have asked.

First, I feel the need to mention the bass drum pedal isn’t pictured because it was still loaded with a different drum set.  It’s a custom pedal.  The mini bass drum shown is slightly elevated naturally by the luggage hauler and the pedal is mounted to a custom wooden lift.

A few more pictures before I describe this kit:

This drum set, that I have named Steel Smalls, also has an 8″ tom tom that sound a bit timbale-esque,  a cutlery holder from IKEA I got for 5 bucks that has an in between a cymbal and a cowbell thing going for it, an unknown tubular thing that I drilled and mounted.  Whatever it is it sounds beautiful and makes a sweet ride, and lastly a huge pot that delivers an ominous deep dark trash somewhere between a crash and a china.  In a good way.

Steel Smalls packs away into the huge pot and the bucket throne and even rolls off of stage fully equipped, although rather awkwardly.  Still… breaking it down takes about 30 seconds and it’s pretty light for lifting in and out of a vehicle.

Thanks for joining us on ButterSword today!  We hope you’ll head back over when we post another new comic page on Friday.  Have a great week and if you get the holiday blues, you aren’t alone in that.  Hang in there and hang on!  It’ll all be over soon!  For a year at least.

  1. I don’t suppose he’s just offering to make a pizza either, is he?!
    (Cause I wouldn’t mind some pepperoni…)
    :)

I’m guessing “dealt with” doesn’t mean a hand of cards.

That drum set looks awesome. All polished and shiny. Well, other than the high hats! Have you ever tried selling your drum sets? Customized one of a kind sets. . .

    • MC/Curtis says:

      Thanks Binky!
They don’t play cards on his planet and/or place of origin.
Too bad for Ann, but maybe she’ll think of something.

The drums shine from the aluminum and duck tape coating. :)
I doubt any drummers would buy my inventions. Collectively all drummers think they individually know best. In other words… anyone but another drummer might think my inventions are cool.

Hmmm….Dealt with?….Reminds me of something my mother use to say…Aak!

I have a Christmas gift for you, Curtis!

  4. Dr. X says:

Nice comic here MC! Keep em coming

  5. George says:

A spinning blade is one of the weapons I’m scared of the most. Gulp!

  6. Mark Stokes says:

No matter how you slice it, deal me out! Love the look on Ann’s face in that final frame! You are quite the innovator, MC, it’s always fun to see your latest project. I’m not much of a music man, but I’d sure play that! Happy Holidays, MC and Jenn! Try to make it through with a little cheer…!

  7. Chris K says:

The Spinning Blade. Can’t wait to see how Ann will get out of this.

  8. Judith says:

whoohoo way cool …metal claw, whirling blade…drums…hummmmm

  9. Friggin Loon says:

By crikey, that’s what your drum kit needs…a spinning blade!!!!

Have an amazing Christmas and New Year and please stay safe :)

  10. Mongoose says:

Oh come it’s only a spinning blade you can take him

  11. Tony McGurk says:

C’mon vacuum cleaner bloke, surely the spinning blade really isn’t necessary. I’m afraid I have no suggestions to offer Ann. Is their anywher to run to???
So with the pot combo I assume you can play the drums & use it as a mobile kitchen as well

    • MC/Curtis says:

Haha… I might could have had I not drilled holes in everything to place the items on cymbal stands. Where’s a gypsy when you need one?! Oh… I guess the pots aren’t copper.
